All SPC-approved groups request and receive an annual budget from SGA.
Groups needing additional funds are encouraged to submit contingency requests throughout the year. Over $50,000 is available annually for student events, programming, and organizations.
As part of each SGA senator's role, they are assigned to be a liaison for two groups. This role means they are your direct line to all things SGA. Have questions? Need help requesting contingency funds? Help with your event? Contact your liaison!
Each liaison is required to meet with your group at several points in the year.
The Liaison Committee meets weekly and works to assist groups in need of event planning, staffing, or fundraising. Reach out to collaborate today!

What are the guidelines to request additional contingency funds?
Any student group that receives an annual budget from SGA and/or is Student Policy Committee (SPC) approved may request contingency funds using the above form. Per the SGA Constitution, groups that have not yet attempted fundraising in a semester are capped to a $2,000 request. Groups may request funds and organizational assistance from SGA to host a fundraiser. With fundraising, a group may request a maximum of $5,000.
What can and cannot be funded in contingency requests?
The Student Senate will always consider requests for:
a) Funding fundraisers.
b) Funding food and refreshments.
c) Funding for conferences and out-of-town retreats.
d) Funding tournaments and/or competitions.
In extreme cases, the Student Senate will consider requests for:
a) Funding varsity or club sports.
b) Funding reimbursement requests, given that those requests comply with normal contingency guidelines.
c) Funding proposals for which a group has done little or no fundraising.
d) Funding proposals for groups or activities that are/were not open to the entire campus.
e) Funding alumni involvement in activities.
The Student Senate will rarely, if ever, consider requests for the following. Funding of these items can be considered unconstitutional:
a) Funding social/greek fraternities/sororities.
b) Funding unidentified speakers.
c) Funding hotels or lodging.
d) Funding airfare.
e) Funding scholarships.
f) Funding cable programming.
g) Funding advisor and coaching expenses.
h) Funding gifts.

How are budgets determined?
Great question! To give as equal a distribution as possible, the following guidelines and criteria determined the 2025-2026 FY budget.
Club Expenses: Memberships, meeting food/equipment, club dues, operating expenses, up to a maximum of $250.
Fall Events: Up to a maximum of $1500 for Fall Events, based on your group's request and the event(s) past standing.
Graduation Supplies: All requests for graduation cords and stoles are funded. Graduation gifts are not funded.
Spring Events: To have a fair distribution of funds between semesters and groups, spring programming is not funded in the annual budget. Though, nearly 1/2 of the annual budget is available for contingency, intended for spring programming.
Platform Boosts: To support groups with long-term missions and vital priorities to Augustana's students, blanket increases were given to three categories. All Culture groups received an additional $500. All sustainability and accessibility related groups received an additional $250.
Carryover/Gifts: Due to SPC and College guidelines, any amount marked as "carryover" or "gifts" is subtracted from the amount of your request. Sorry, we know, it's silly.
