Ms. Caplen grew up in Northern Virginia, and moved down into the valley to attend Bridgewater College. While at Bridgewater, she was president of Bridgewater's Collegiate NAfME chapter, was an active member and leader of both Concert Choir and Chorale, and also earned a minor in Equine Studies. Post-graduation, Ms. Caplen has worked in Augusta County and Harrisonburg City as a substitute teacher, and taught elementary music in Rockingham County before landing back in the Fort community. She loves the fact that she gets to teach in the same community that she completed her student teaching in!
Presently, Ms. Caplen is an active member of the Virginia Music Educator's Association (VMEA), serving as District V Choral Representative and as a member of the DEI Council. She is a Co-Director of FDHS' annual Musical and active in the ShenanArts Community Theater scene, as well.
Outside of school, Ms. Caplen enjoys horseback riding, baking and traveling the globe. She currently lives in the Staunton area with her husband - who is also a music teacher - a cats, and several chickens.
