The Obura Award

At an early age, Samuel Ochiel Obura always believed in the value of education, viewing it as his only ticket out of the cycle of poverty. It is this belief in education that drove him to instill the same belief in his children, and countless other youth in his village. Through various personal resources, Obura assisted many children from his native village attend school.

The scholarship was initiated so as to give the children from his village a chance to excel in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math), which are a passion of Sam Obura. From this seed sprouted the awards cycle that gives donors an opportunity to support students in Kenya in causes and interests they are passionate about. The awards cycle is critical for many students who attend high school at Mudhiero Secondary.
