Do you provide stop numbers?
Q: Do you provide stop numbers?
A: We don’t prescribe a fixed number of stops or provide physical markers, because one size really doesn’t fit all — and we want each venue’s identity and space to lead.
A (expanded): We deliberately leave physical markers up to the venue. A lot of spaces we’ve spoken to are historic or sensitive, and even small details like adhesives or fixtures can be an issue. Venues usually already have an approach they’re comfortable with — whether that’s a small printed number, an existing reference system, or something temporary.
Yes. Tours can be locked behind tickets when tickets are sold through the AudioTours platform. However, for football stadiums we generally do not recommend this approach. Stadium tours usually require a ticket to access the venue itself, and the audio tour works best as a complimentary experience once visitors are already inside.
For venues selling tickets externally, the tour description can clearly state that a valid ticket is required to use the tour effectively, with a direct link to the venue’s ticketing page included in the app.
Hard locking is most useful for museums or one-off exhibitions, where it prevents visitors from accidentally purchasing a tour they cannot access.
No. If the venue is using the AI translation workflow, only the source language needs to be updated. All translated versions update automatically, removing the need to manage each language separately.
Very little. Initial setup typically involves providing a single source audio file per stop, along with a short accompanying text script. After that, ongoing management is minimal and only required when the venue wishes to update or expand content.
Yes. Visitors download the AudioTours app. Once signed in, nearby tours will appear on the landing screen automatically. Alternatively, visitors can search for the venue by name in advance, save the tour, and have it ready to activate once on site.
The app is designed to work over Wi‑Fi or 4G/5G networks. Visitors can purchase, activate, and download tours in advance (ideally one or two days before visiting). Once downloaded, audio files are available offline.
Geo‑location is still required to use the tour, but playback does not rely on constant signal once content is downloaded.
At present, tours are always available once published. This is intentional, as AudioTours prioritises showing users the most up‑to‑date version of a venue’s content. Temporarily disabling tours could cause confusion for visitors who have already purchased or saved them.
Timed availability is something we are exploring as a future enhancement based on partner feedback.
No. AudioTours is designed to complement existing guided tours, matchday experiences, and visitor programmes. Many venues use it to support self‑guided visitors, international groups, or quieter periods, rather than as a replacement.
Tours appear automatically in the app based on location. Venues may also choose to use simple signage or QR codes on site to guide visitors, using methods that suit their space and conservation needs.
AudioTours provides the platform and tools to host, manage, and distribute your audio tours — we don’t create the recordings themselves.
We strongly recommend that tours use a voice from within your institution where possible. Visitors consistently respond better to familiar, authentic voices that reflect the tone and identity of the venue.
How recordings are provided
Venues supply:
One audio recording per stop (in a single source language)
A matching written transcript for each stop
Each stop’s audio and transcript can be placed into simple folders and uploaded in bulk through the portal.
Once uploaded, additional languages can be generated from the source transcript — meaning you record each stop once, rather than re-recording for every language.
Creative flexibility
Venues are completely free to:
Use in-house staff, volunteers, or curators
Work with professional voice artists or audio producers
Mix content styles depending on the tour (e.g. adult, family, education)
By keeping ownership of the original recordings, your content remains fully reusable — whether for future tours, exhibitions, or other platforms.
AudioTours is designed to serve and scale your content, not replace your creative voice or editorial control.
