Digital Literacies

PART 1:

Digital literacy is a very key aspect to online communication. Personally, the most important aspects about digital literacy are the cultural, cognitive and communicative. We learn to differentiate between the different platforms in terms what can be posted and what not and what sources can be used and what not; we also learn to engage with all kinds of programs and technology to be skillful at using them when applying digital literacy; we use digital technology to help our community by creating content that raises awareness about a certain cause.

PART 2:

Here are some examples of the assignments that helped me gain more digital literacies and skills:

Defining 'Digital Literacy':

This assignment introduced me to the different meanings of digital literacies and the difference between it and digital skills and fluency. I took a test to determine my the stronger aspects of digital literacy. I read several definitions some credible and some not very accurate. I read a couple of articles discussing elements of digital literacies.
The assignment was helpful in that it helped me get more familiar with the objective of the course and at the same time, it was informative and although it required some work, I found it interesting.

Digital Literacy

Digital Narrative Game:

Creating a narrative game was the most creative assignment I got to do. The process that I was introduced to the assignment was first through playing narrative games, then I was encouraged to think about an idea for a narrative game, then I created a prototype after which I created the final game using the program 'Inklewriter'. These small steps made the actual assignment of designing the game easy. The most influential aspect about this game is that writing and playing it, I had to put myself in the shoes of other and think from their perspective. Using new digital skills to raise awareness about a concerning issue in society is a great aspect of digital literacy.

The podcast assignment was a chance to express oneself as well as an opportunity to learn new digital skills.

PART 3:

One thing that can be added for a more profound experience of the digital literacies is replacing the final presentation, which exists in most courses, with a video making project that will teach the students more digital skills while allowing them to express their ideas visually.
