It's the middle of a sad scene in an intense movie and it goes completely silent. All you hear is the sound of squeaky chairs: eeeeet, creeeeekkkkkkkkkkk. This is the worst feeling as a student and as a teacher you are just trying to focus on the movie and easily get distracted by this inevitable problem.
Some classes here at MBMS have better chairs and students do not have to suffer this crazy problem. It was a normal day in a class, and people were trying to focus on the 30-minute video they had to take notes on and can't focus because the person next to them is trying very hard to get them to punch him by squeaking his chair 24/7. People are just trying to do their job and they think this is funny? STOP!
It's not just a problem for students at MBMS, it is also a problem for most teachers. Mrs. Sherin, seventh-grade and eighth-grade social studies teacher said “ Unless a kid goes out of their way to be obnoxious it does not bother me, it does not bother me because it happens to all of us.”
Even studies show that this is a big problem in schools. More sensitive to noise than adults, children in loud classrooms lag behind those in less noisy ones in terms of speech precipitation, expressive word learning and learning how to read.” ajc.com states
Students are also affected by this issue because it affects their learning every day. “ I think students do it to tick each other off, They're doing it to kind of to tease like, I'm just giving my neighbor the business. Yeah. So like, stop it. He's gonna come across that table and punch you” Sherin stated.
Throughout time teachers learn to be less vulnerable to this problem and just give a slight reminder to the children. “After being annoying, you just give them the look. And they usually just stop. Okay is kind of being a jerk, Like I say the only time I get mad is when a kid does it and it's annoying another kid.” Sherin states.
So please if you find yourself being entertained by affecting others with the horrible problem STOP it is annoying for students and takes away from students' small attention span for school work.
“ I think it bothers other kids more than it does me as a teacher,” Sherin said.
