With the 2024-2025 school year coming to an end, students and staff at MBMS have decided to introduce a Met-Gala themed spirit day on Jun. 1 to get a good start to the last month of school. As you’ve likely guessed, on this day students and staff were allowed to dress up in fancy, casual, or even quirky clothes that they would wear if they were invited to the Met Gala. Below is a look at some of the most outstanding outfits!
Ranked with having the number one best outfit is seventh-grader Lolita Rockwell. Rockwell loves the vintage Americana aesthetic, such as retro heart-shaped sunglasses.
“My outfit’s so vintage Americana. The sunglasses are NOT inspired by Lanita Del Ray, though. I think her music is like, mid. I listen to hard rap instead, like that Em & Em dude,” Rockwell said.
Rockwell strongly believes that music taste should never dictate how people dress.
“I just like heart-shaped sunglasses, why can’t I wear them without everyone thinking that 'Summertime Happiness' is playing in my airpods?” Rockwell said. “I think we should all just dress however we want! Even though I like hard rap, I am not about to wear those baggy pants that sag.”
Ranking second-best is eighth-grader Connor McConnor, sporting a Hawaiian surfer look. McConnor loves his Hawaiian-print shirts.
“Catching the waves, dude, feels so cool,” McConnor said. “Wearing whatever I want makes me feel like I’m on the beach right now, although I live in Auburn against my will.”
McConnor used to live in the magical land of Hawaii, but was abducted by the Bulldog and brought to MBMS.
“Like, I don’t get why this scary-looking dog took me to this school,” McConnor said. “Just take me back to Hawaii, bruh. There’s no waves here.”
Last but not least, MBMS principal Mr. Hazel was all dressed up as and even mimicked the behavior of our school’s very own mascot: the bulldog.
“Gotta spread that school spirit,” Hazel said. “My favorite part of this awesome costume is that I feel free to bark at kids in the hallways when they’re late to class.”
Although Mr. Hazel’s behavior on this day was questionable to students, staff seemed to enjoy the fun.
“I loved seeing the disgusted looks on students’ faces when they were barked at, especially Connor McConnor,” art teacher Ms. Sparkleclash said.
Spirit days are a way to spread positivity and have fun, even if it is carried out differently than usual.
“Acting strange every once in a while makes school fun,” Sparkleclash said.

Prior to this photograph, Mr. Hazel had just barked aggressively at a group of eighth-grade boys who were late to class. "I'm having so much fun introducing a new method of making sure students get to class on time," Hazel said. PHOTO ILLUSTRATION BY A. LIVINGSTON VIA PICSART AND THISPERSONISNOTREAL
