Homework isn't precisely every kid's favorite thing to do when they get home. Some kids love it, some do it through their parents' nagging, and others don't even bother to do it. But despite what anyone says about homework, there are two sides to whether homework is considered good or bad.
[Homework will have a good influence] "if it's introduced in a positive way" sixth-grader Vera Campbell said.
Homework has its good side. For example, it improves a student's achievement. Studies have shown that homework improved grades, test results, and a student's likelihood of attending college.
"Students who spent about 31 to 90 minutes of homework each day scored about 40 points higher on the SAT-Mathematics subtest than their peers, who reported spending no time on homework each day, on average” procon.org, research that was published in the High School Journal said.
Everyone has their opinions on homework and everyone will have to do homework at some point in their life and you can't avoid that.
"[Homework] can be positive in a way because it can help [students] with work they have," sixth-grader Ryker Clark said.
On the other hand, too much homework can result in being harmful. According to procon.org, a poll taken from high school students resulted in 59% of them saying they have too much homework. 82% of the total responders said that often or always stressed by schoolwork. High-achieving high school students stated that too much homework will lead to sleep deprivation, headaches, exhaustion, weight loss, stomach problems, and other health problems.
"Homework has a bad influence because people don't have time to do it," eighth-grader Emely Cabrera-Perez said.
What you can do is learn how to efficiently do your homework. The first step is to create a homework plan. You should understand the assignment and start right away. Just because it's called homework doesn't mean you have to do it at home, you can do it during free or extra time and then see how much homework you have left, and budget your time for how long you will spend time on homework. Next, you should watch where you work. Find a quiet place to work and avoid studying on your bed. Then, get to work. Start working on your hardest assignment first since you have the most energy right when you begin and take breaks. You can take a 15-minute break every hour, or if you're really concentrated, wait until a good time to stop. Finally, when you finish, don't forget to put the assignment in your homework. If throughout any time you need help with something, you can ask your teacher or a classmate or try to find a tutor.
