There have been many pencils disappearing from the desks of MBMS students. To help with this major problem, there's been an app created to help keep pencils and determine who took it.
This app, called Find My Pencil, has multiple uses. It can give you tips on how to keep your pencil on your desk, there are special ways the app can help locate your pencil, and it can help determine who snatched your pencil.
Eighth-grader, Graphite Wood helped give some insight on how you feel when your pencil disappears.
“I feel like the whole world is going to collapse,” Wood said. “I don’t know how I am going to keep going.”
Seventh-grader, Clay Black added some tips on how to locate your pencil after it vanishes.
“Look around at anyone who seems guilty,” Black said. “If someone has multiple pencils on their desk, they probably took it.”
Sixth-grader, Lead Bandit stated what makes some people snatch the pencils.
“There is such a rush when you snatch one successfully, you feel like you conquered the world,” Bandit said. “Not that I’ve ever done it.”
Penelope Cilchenko, creator of Find My Pencil, states what made them invent the app.
“I remember in middle school when people stole my pencils, I would feel awful,” Cilchenko said. “So I created the app to spare other people the same misery.”
Principal Chalmers gave some tips on what to do when your pencil is stolen.
“Once you discover your pencil missing, look around for anyone suspicious, " Chalmers said. “Then, tell a teacher who you think did it and we will do our best to find the culprit.”
There is a very severe punishment for pencil stealers.
“If we catch someone stealing a pencil, we will immediately suspend them for 2 weeks,” Chalmers said. “If a person repeats it, the punishment doubles each time. A three-time offender will be suspended for eight weeks.”
Students have been using the Find My Pencil app to keep their pencils, to great success.
“I have been using Find My Pencil for four days, and I haven’t lost one pencil,” Wood said. “I can finally focus on my learning and not worry about losing pencils.”
Cilchenko gave her thoughts on the students and their success.
“I am so happy that the students are excelling thanks to my app,” Cilchenko said.
The Find My Pencil app has had 417,753,596 downloads in the five days the app has been up.
“I am so focused on schoolwork, I can get all A’s,” Black said. “All thanks to Find My Pencil.”
Principal Chalmers shows the shock and despair a student feels when they discover their pencil missing. With Find My Pencil, students do not need to feel this pain and can focus on their schoolwork. PHOTO ILLUSTRATION BY K. CURTIS, COURTESY OF AMAZON.COM
