School counselors are responsible for encouraging the personal, social, and academic growth and well-being of each student. The belief underlying their work is that only by working through emotional and social issues will students be able to learn optimally. Through school counselors' extensive training, these educators provide a comprehensive school counselor program that addresses the needs of the "whole child" and promotes success both in school and in future life choices.
Components of the school counseling program include classroom lessons, small group support, individual meetings with students, and continuing family engagement. Working and consulting with families provides connection and consistency between home and school. At times, referrals to outside resources add to the network of support for a student.
I look forward to working with each student and his or her family on creating a learning environment that meets his or her needs. Each student brings many talents and strengths to our Sherwood Heights community. I am so glad that you are a valuable part of our school! Please contact me with any concerns or questions you might have throughout the school year!
