NEU

Lakeland Hills Elementary is now an offical NEU school!

What does that mean? NEU stands for No Excuse University. Every classroom at Lakeland has adopted a college, university, trade school, or military academy. Our goal is to open the door of possibility for your child for their future by having conversations early about their interests, talents, goal setting, etc. Once a month I will have a lesson from the book College Conversations that is geared for 4th graders. In June I was able to attend a NEU teacher conference for two days with a team from our school. Now that I have a son who is graduating this year I can attest to the importance of having a plan for after high school. It comes fast!

The college I adopted a few years ago is Wheaton College in Illinois. My alma mater PLU was already taken so I chose the school my niece, was attending. Sarah won a Concerto Contest the fall of 2017. My sister and I flew back to see her perform her concerto with the Wheaton Orchestra. It was fun seeing the campus in person and having some photos to show my class, as well. Sarah just graduated from Wheaton in May 2019. She majored in music performance and hopes to be a professional flutist. Her back-up plan will be teaching flute at a college/university. This fall she has an assistantship at the University of Illinois. She is pursuing a Masters Degree in music performance.

My niece, Sarah, a 2019 Wheaton College Graduate!
