Work expectations:

You will be expected to do quality work at all times.

21 Century Skills:

You will need to attend class regularly to participate in discussions, note taking, completion of example problems, homework assignments and concept projects.  Class activities may or may not be made up, depending on the assignment.  If you are absent, you risk missing out on important and relevant classroom instruction, discussion and example problems.  You are expected to complete the assigned homework promptly.

Practice:

Practice problems will be assigned daily and will be checked the next day.  Practice will be checked for showing progress and showing work.  All practice assigned for a Unit will be will be turned in the day of the test for scoring.  Each practice assignment will be scored between 0 and 10 points.  Late practice will lose 25% of its point value and will not be accepted beyond one week before the end of the quarter grading period (1st quarter, 2nd quarter).

Evidence of participation includes, attendance, complete course lecture notes, completed assessments, involved in discussions, showing awareness of the course calendar and due dates. Actively involved in the learning process (asks questions and promptly does the in-class practice or homework). Pursue opportunities to improve your understanding of the material and grade in the course.

Assessments:

Quizzes will be conducted almost daily in each Unit.  The purposes of my quizzes are to expose students to what will be assessed on the Unit Test and to assess the student’s mastery and progress.  Missed quizzes due to absences will be excused. Quizzes cannot be retaken (no fear, nobody will fail the class due to a bad quiz score).

A Test will be conducted after covering and practicing 10 to 15 objectives (there are roughly 2 objects in each unit section).  The tests will be organized and graded by objective.   The purposes of the test is to expose students to what will be assessed on the semester mid-term and final and to assess the student’s mastery and progress through the course.   Missed tests may be made up during CORE/Choice, or before/after school.  A tested objective can be individually retested.  Retested objective score replaces original objective test score (with a max. of 85%).  Retesting on an objective must be completed before the end of that object’s quarter.

The semester mid-term will cover 1st quarter learning targets and the semester final will cover 2nd quarter learning targets.  The purpose of the mid-term and final is to assess student mastery of the material covered during the quarter.  No retakes on these exams.
