With 427 ASD teacher votes, it was decided that the new Teacher Device Standard will become a 360-Touch Chromebook and PC Desktop provided to every teacher. 360-Touch Chromebooks are also provided for students in K-1 classrooms.
PC Desktops will continue to be refreshed on their regular schedule.
Teachers will receive new 360-Touch Chromebooks in winter of the 2018-2019 school year.
In an effort to establish a new device standard for teachers, the District Technology Review Committee (DTAC) spent the winter considering the next iteration of our current teacher device standard (Desktop PC and Standard Chromebook). The team began by investigating other districts’ practices and analyzing five initial options.
After the review and analysis, DTAC chose to pilot a 360 Chromebook Touch in spring 2018, with ten teachers across grade bands and content areas. DTAC members wanted teachers to have a PC in the classroom and, potentially, a mobile touch device that flips so it is easier to carry for instructional purposes.
At this time, the DTAC recommends a 360-Touch Chromebook become the replacement device for the Chromebook currently assigned to certificated staff. If this option is chosen, a desktop PC will remain as part of the standard in the classroom. This Chromebook will not replace the current standard for students (regular Chromebook).
The other final alternative considered by DTAC was a PC laptop. If chosen, the PC laptop would replace both the Chromebook and desktop teacher PC currently in the classroom (students PCs are being phased out as they age out of inventory).
