At MBMS, there are 15 electives to choose from. Most likely students get to choose their electives, and students usually choose the electives that they believe they’d like. Out of the 15 given elective choices, a student would most likely have a favorite.
The electives are classes students look forward to going to every day, electives are the classes that students get to enjoy.
“Kitchen science, because it’s really fun to just hang out with friends and I learn real-life skills you can apply,” eighth-grader Aspen Mewhorter said. “Obviously, I like cooking and mostly baking. I like the baking part of it.”
Students have their favorite elective classes for a reason, every elective is different and you get to experience new things and can end up loving the class.
“My favorite class is drama because all my friends are in it and it is just a pretty fun class,” seventh-grader Ariyana Banwait said. “I like to do the plays and scripts and watching other scripts.”
There is always a way to learn something new; one of the best places to do that would be school. Even though elective classes seem like they aren’t supposed to be a class where you would learn something new like on a math level. In elective courses, you learn new things without even realizing you did.
“I learned a lot about the muscles and the body,” sixth-grader Devin Barquet said. “I learned how to make good choices.”
Even out of the 15 electives, there is always a possibility someone would want or like more. Many schools are different when it comes to classes and to be more specific, electives.
“I would want more [electives] because I feel like Riverside, they have a lot of fun ones like yoga,” Mewhorter said.
Electives can’t only be fun or a favorite, but they can be very beneficial. Electives are a little different than regular classes, but that doesn't mean you can’t still learn from the class.
“It [drama] gives me the skill that I need to get up and give a presentation like in front of a class,” Banwait said.
There are so many reasons a student would have a favorite elective, but this response is definitely common. Being allowed to hang out, talk, and do activities with friends makes classes more fun.
“Because, like, most of my friends are in there [kitchen science] and we get to play sports,” Barquet said.
All classes benefit you in some way. One of the best benefits you can get from a class, specifically an elective, is that you can learn life skills.
"I would be able to cook and bake better and I could learn new techniques," Mewhorter said.
