Roles
This is where most of the making the robot happens, on the build side of things. Together, you will work with other people to create and manufacture robots to win this year's game (Crescendo). This will require some basic engineering knowledge. Other students will mentor and guide you through the process of making the robot.
CAD, also known as computer-aided design, is a way to model the robot. You will also be able 3-D print things for the robot. You can learn how to do these types of things with no prior knowledge or experience. CAD is one of the biggest pillars of robotics. We will use it a lot, even if you don't specialize in it. We use Onshape to create our CADs.
This is an integral part of the robot that ensures it can run correctly and efficiently play the game. We code in Java, and would be willing to teach it to a certain degree. Baseline coding knowledge is required. Depending on cirumstances, blocks may not count for enough experience.
This is where people can run our social media, making update videos/posts on the robot and our team. We would also like to incorporate how-to videos in the future if that is something you would like to do.
This is the sector where people will create marketing strategies to spread our team to more people in the school, and to more sponsors.
As of right now, the electrical side of the robot is mostly handled by the build team. Electrical is still a pretty big part, and could use a whole team if we have enough people.
Besides these main things, we do other stuff when necessary or when it doesn't fit into other sectors.
Miscellaneous task include:
Robot design planning
Cleaning
Organizing
Documentation
Other projects
Workshop optimization
Participating in competitions
FIRST Robotics
The FIRST Robotics Competition, also known as FRC, is a worldwide event hosted by FIRST where robots created by high schoolers compete to win each year's game. Every team will have about six weeks to build and prepare a robot for the competition. This year's game is the long awaited water game, called Reefscape (can see teasers in the videos on the Home page).
