Mrs. Walker

About Me: I am a graduate of the Seattle Art Insitute and WSU - I have taught English, History, Government and AP Human Geography. This year I have the pleasure of teaching Senior Civics and Freshman AP Human Geography! I have lived in the South Sound, the Mojave, Pullman and a variety of cities throughout Canada. I met my husband, Mike, while I was a hurdler at WSU and we have three children, three grandchildren and a grandpup. All three of our kids ran track for me and this season at AMHS will mark my 24th year of coaching! This summer I spent a week as a student at an AP Summer Institute. I soaked up some sun while kayaking and floating at Lake Cushman. I explored a variety of new trails and beaches in Tacoma and enjoyed community events such as Shakespeare in the Park and Ethnic Fest. Last small bits about me...I'm slightly obessed with Edgar Allen Poe (side effect of a birthday near Halloween), I love the outdoors, cooking, reading, spending time with family and friends, and of course, I love teaching and learning!

PS: I'm passionate about civil rights and engaging in civil discourse regarding issues - I will work hard to facilitate civil conversations in my classroom as well. One of my current passions, since my husband sustained a serious spinal cord injury, is educating people regarding accomodations for people with disabilities.

How and Where to Find Me

kwalker@auburn.wednet.edu

1st period: prep period - various location because my room is occupied.

2nd, 3rd & 4th: room 236 (the old culinary arts room)

5th & 6th: room 319 (shared with Mrs. Chu)

Since I am in various location at AMHS, email is the best way to communicate, but if you would prefer a phone conversation - that works as well - simply email me your contact information and the best times to call or leave a message for me with the main office.

FYI: Students in Civics will have online access to their text book - but also have the option to check out a paper copy at the library. APHG students will only have a paper copy and will need to bring it class every day. All students need to have their charged Chromebook in class every day. We will be using Google Classroom and a variety of other online sources.

Course overviews coming soon.
