ParentSquare is coming!

Effective communication between schools and families is a foundation for student success. Beginning in August, the Auburn School District will be using a new communication platform called ParentSquare so we can better communicate with families.

ParentSquare lets families choose how they want to receive messages and designate their preferred language. The district has been testing the new system at multiple schools and the results have been great! We look forward to using this new tool at all schools in August.

Look for more information about ParentSquare in the coming months!

SBA testing is coming up! As you know, every Spring all students take the Smarter Balanced Assessment, an opportunity for students to show what they have learned this year. 6th, 7th and 8th graders will all take assessments in English Language Arts and Math. 8th graders will also take a Science assessment.

Please support your student's success by helping them get to school on time, well rested and with a charged Chromebook.

Attention 8th Grade Families! There are several important events coming up for 8th grade students.

This week, all 8th graders received a permission slip for a Transition Field Trip on May 30.  For this field trip, 8th graders will be traveling to either Auburn High, Auburn Mountainview High, or West Auburn High and meeting staff, getting a tour and learning about their new school. We want every 8th grader to attend this field trip, as it is a great opportunity to learn about the school they will be attending next year. Thank you for helping remind your 8th grader to turn this form in. Field Trip forms are due on May 17.

This June, we will be updating how we recognize our 8th graders as they transition to high school. On June 11, we will be hosting an evening awards ceremony. Students and families will receive an invitation in the mail for this event. On June 18, during the school day, we will host an 8th grade student only celebration. Students will get to sign yearbooks, view an 8th grade slide show, enjoy some snacks and hang out together. All students will go home on June 18 with a promotion certificate.

We hope to see you Tuesday, April 30 for our Asian American Pacific Islander Night! Remember, at family nights we require that students attend with an adult.

Season 2 Sports Recap:  Congratulations to ALL of our second season athletes! There was lots of excitement during winter sports. Our girls' gymnastics team came up just short in defending their 22-23 League Championship. Our varsity boys' basketball team also played for a league championship. Our girls' soccer as well as our JV and C team boys basketball teams represented us well on the field and court.

From Coach Moody-This year's girls soccer season was a year of determination and growth. We secured some victories and a tie this season through our great teamwork and effort on the field. Our players always gave their best effort every game despite the crazy winter weather we had this season!

From Coach Smith- The Boys basketball 2023/24 season was a success.  We had five teams in total, three c-teams, JV and varsity and while the record may not agree with my successful season assessment, we were able to improve.  From the first day of practice, our goal was to get better every day and we achieved this on all teams.  I was pleased with the effort every player showed every day.

Our varsity team made it to the championship game and even though we didn’t win, I was still proud of our players because they played hard every minute of the game.  I’m excited for the next season and for our continued growth.

Upcoming Events- We have lots of fun evening events planned for the second half of the year! Mark your calendars!

Cascade Update- October 6, 2023

Welcome to October!

Student Grade Checks: Every other Friday, students will be completing grade check through their 4th period class. Students will be looking at their Skyward and making note of missing assignments and creating a plan to get or stay caught up on their work. We are encouraging students to share this Google Doc with parents/guardians so that you can see their grades and assignments in one place.  Students started this process on Tuesday, October 3. Please ask your student about their grade check sheet if you have not seen it yet!

Hispanic Heritage Night  is Thursday October 12 starting at 5:30pm. Please note, this is a family event and students must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the event.

Curious about PTSA at the Middle School level? Come learn more at one of our two informational meetings!

Tuesday October 12, 7:30-8:00am in the Cascade Library. Please check in at the main office.

Tuesday October 12, 5:00-5:30pm in the Cascade Library. This is right before the Hispanic Heritage Night, so you can stop by the library before enjoying the festivities!

The Multi-Lingual Department is hosting a ML Family night on October 25! Is your child learning English in addition to their native language? Then this is the night for you! Please see the attached flyers for more information.

8th grade Families: On Wednesday, October 11 all 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT in their 1st-3rd period classes. Please make sure your student is well-rested, on time and has a charged Chromebook.

The PSAT helps future high school students prepare for the SAT by testing their reading, math and writing skills. Beyond practice,  high scoring students can earn national recognition, including the National Merit Scholarship.  This test is provided free of charge by the Auburn School District.

Healthy Youth Survey is coming! Our school district is participating in the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey during fall 2023. The survey will be given to students in Grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, sexual behaviors, abuse, risk and protective factors and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks. Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous. There are no codes or information used to match a survey to a student.  At Cascade, students will be completing the survey through their Science classes.

Fall Conferences will be Monday November 6-Wednesday November 8. There will be a three hour late start all three days, with school starting at 7:40am. More information to come!

Morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up: When dropping students off in the morning, please pull all the way through the driveway so that we can have multiple cars unload at once. Students should be ready with all their things before opening the door! We will have signs out reminding vehicles to pull through the driveway.

Also, please only drop off at the curb. When pulling away from the curb, please be patient and aware of cars pulling out behind you.

In the afternoons, please fill in all available space while waiting for your child to come out.

We appreciate everyone's patience in helping make drop-off and pick-up a safe experience for everyone!
