Practice Routines

Greetings, Orchestra,

Given the current global circumstances, keeping a strong daily routine is important to continue to grow and develop. This is particularly important with practicing music.

Much like in athletics, a steady routine of warming up, goal-setting, and skill building will turn you into a much better musician in a faster amount of time.

A goal of 30 minutes of practice per day is totally reasonable--and achievable--at your age and ability. A practice routine could look something like:

Concert Orchestra

  • Tune/Daily Warm-Ups (5 minutes)

  • Scales (5 minutes)

  • Essential Technique Book (10 minutes)

  • Concert Music (10 minutes)

Philharmonic

  • Tune (1-2 minutes)

  • Habits Book (18 minutes)

    • I. Tone and Articulation Exercise

    • II. Finger Pattern Exercise

    • IV. Scales and Arpeggios

  • Concert Music (10 minutes)

Staying on a steady routine will keep you engaged with learning, and help the time go by. Who knows...maybe you'll even have fun :)

Happy practicing, and stay healthy!
