AHS 24/25 Parent and Family Engagement Policy
Auburn Senior High School and the Schoolwide Title 1 program recognize that students have successful educational experiences when families and school staff work together to assist and support the student in their academic endeavors. The following are ways that AHS and Schoolwide Title I work in partnership with the parents to promote the educational success of all students.
Communication: Communication is a key element in the building of the parent/school partnership. AHS sends messages by email, ParentSquare, and phone as well as posting key information on its website. A Title I Student/Parent/School Compact is sent home to all parents and students. Parents are asked to agree on how you will help your children at home.
Parent Education: Throughout the year Parents will be provided opportunities to learn more about their student’s academic progress, school programs and initiatives, the AHS School Improvement Plan (SIP), and course offerings during Open House, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. There are also many Post-Secondary/College and Career Nights to help families navigate the coming years.
Involvement in School: Parent involvement is always encouraged. Family Access is available online 24 hours a day to check grades and attendance. Participation in classes requires teacher and administrator permission ahead of time.
Learning at Home: Auburn High School encourages students to practice their skills at home with the support of their parents.
Parent Input: Parents have an opportunity to provide input on the student and family programs that they feel would be helpful for their child’s school success. At the end of the school year, parents are surveyed to evaluate Title I support to assist the school in planning for the next school year.
School Improvement Plan Schoolwide Title I Goals:
Schoolwide Title 1 Literacy Goal: By the end of the year, all high school students will improve their literacy skills across all subjects by using AVID’s WICOR strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). These strategies will help students develop stronger reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, preparing them for success in school and beyond.
Schoolwide Title I Collaboration and Communication Goal: AHS is committed to strengthening parent-school partnerships through improved communication. Teachers will contact parents of students at risk of failing during each progress reporting period and update grade books in Skyward every 2 weeks. Students can schedule after-school appointments with teachers for additional instruction or to catch up on missing assignments.
Focused Title I Programs: AHS supports 9th graders through "9th Grade Houses," where students are grouped for English, Math, and Social Studies to build foundational skills for success in later years. Additional intervention is provided in SPEAR ELA and math classes for 9th graders, with online courses available for credit recovery. Students receive targeted intervention in "Troy Time" for extra help in classes they are struggling in and to complete their High School and Beyond Plans, a state graduation requirement.
Extended Learning Opportunities: All extended learning opportunities are dependent on Title I funding. AHS currently provides after school tutoring (Homework Club) Monday-Thursday from 2:45-4:30pm in the library with certificated staff available to help students in Core subject areas. Activity buses are provided for transportation at 4:45pm Monday-Thursday. Summer school programs will be offered starting in July. Information will be available at the end of May.
