Unity Place is APF’s newest rental offering, and it was purposefully built to support incoming Atlanta police recruits. Its doors were officially opened to recruits in February 2022 and it is located in Northwest Atlanta. Those choosing to live at Unity Place benefit financially and in terms of lifestyle, but just as importantly, those living near it benefit too. Unity Place is meant to serve as a platform for community engagement between the Atlanta Police Department and the residents of Vine City and English Avenue.
The residential community contains 12 individual apartments spread over 3 floors that in total comprise 30 leasable bedrooms, each with a private bath. One apartment is compliant with the American Disability Act and shall be made available to interested lessee’s when availability permits. Each occupant shall be required to meet and maintain all eligibility requirements set forth by the Atlanta Police Department and the Atlanta Police Foundation.
Simply put, Unity Place has been designed to serve as affordable, temporary housing for incoming Atlanta police men and women. Although a primary goal of Unity Place is to foster a sense of camaraderie and community among new recruits, it will also serve as a distinguishing factor for recruitment and hiring purposes. Leases are not subsidized, and all operational costs and maintenance fees are to be paid for via rental income and a strategic reserve account. Unity Place is not a dormitory or barracks of the Atlanta Police Training Academy, it is an independently owned and operated residential facility that is governed by the Atlanta Police Foundation. Although lessees shall be subject to certain contractual rules and eligibility requirements, conduct and behavior is intended to be self-governed, and expected to remain in accordance with APD on and off-duty policies.
