The School-on-the-Air (SOA) program plays a crucial role in reaching a large number of learners. SOAs are relatively inexpensive and, when properly planned and implemented, can be as effective as traditional teaching methods. They complement the efforts of extension workers, particularly during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Radio not only facilitates the sharing of cutting-edge technologies but also influences policymakers and local government units to integrate modern agriculture practices into local policies and programs.
Due to its affordability and portability, radio serves as a practical and creative solution to the information and educational needs of underserved farmers, particularly during a pandemic like COVID-19.
To address the need for extensive farmer education, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) will implement the SOA on Rice-Based Integrated Farming Systems. This initiative aims to educate rice farmers in South Cotabato about sustainable and integrated farming practices. It seeks to increase awareness and encourage stronger community involvement in agricultural programs.
At the end of this activity, the participants shall be able to:
Understand and adopt the PalayCheck System;
discuss the concept and principles of rice-based integrated farming system; and
demonstrate and apply integration in rice-based farming system.
