About Us
Athenys Research LLC was founded in 2020 to provide research and consulting services to academic, non-profit, and industry partners. With our name inspired by the Greek goddess Athena and a genus of owls, our goal is to turn data into the kind of knowledge that supports wise decision making. We specialize in environmental and sustainability sciences, and their applications to conservation, natural resource management, and clean energy and transportation. We are based in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Dr. Jonathan Walter, Founder & Lead Scientist
Jon specializes in using statistics and mathematical models to understand the dynamics of complex systems in the environment and beyond, and how to translate these insights into actions. He earned his BS in Environmental Studies from Gettysburg College in 2010, his PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia in 2014. He has worked as a research scientist for Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Kansas, University of Virginia, and University of California, Davis.
