I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!!
Reminders:
*Tomorrow is our final drop-off/pick-up date from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Please remember to bring back your Chromebook, Superkids reader and workbook, your Hero Mail Call paper, your letter to a future 2nd grader, and any other papers you have that you want me to see.
Today...
*Since today is the very last day that I was supposed to send materials home for, I thought I’d give you a challenge that will exercise your left and right brain at the same time! Building fine motor skills, counting, mapping, and concentration are just some of the educational benefits! In your green folder are an extreme maze and an extreme dot-to-dot. Are you brave enough to complete them?? I believe you are!!! These are just for fun and do not need to be returned. Enjoy!!
(On the dot-to-dot, remember to start at dot number 1 and keep connecting the dots in number order. If a number is next to a circle rather than a dot, you will need to pick up your pencil and search for the next number. This number may be anywhere in the design; it may not be near where you left off. Once you find it, continue connecting the dots in number order until you reach another circle. Continue until you have connected to the last dot, which is 880! You will see two amazing animals emerge from the dots. Have fun!)

Hi, everyone! Have a fabulous Friday and a safe and happy Memorial weekend!
Today...
*You’re going on a field trip...a virtual field trip!!! Normally, we’d go on a field trip during the last week of school, so this’ll be your chance to still (sort of) have that experience. Below is a link to several different options. Choose the one you’re most interested in. After going on your “field trip”, please send me an email telling me where you went, why you chose that place, and three things you learned. Have fun!!

Today, students should:
*Complete 20 minutes of reading. Your choice. (See 5-18-20 plans for suggestions if needed.)
*Do 20 minutes of math. Again, your choice. (If needed, see 5-18-20 plans for suggestions and additional websites.)
*Today you’ll be going on a SCAVENGER HUNT! In your green folder are five very different types of scavenger hunts. Choose the one that interests you the most and try to find or complete as many items on the list as you can. Please send pictures of what you were able to find or of you completing something on the list. HAVE FUN!!!

Hello, everyone! I hope you had an enjoyable weekend! Have a marvelous Monday!
As mentioned in our letter home, Mrs. Henrichs and I have decided to shake things up a bit as the weather gets nicer and the year comes close to an end. We’re going to cut back on the work and provide more choices. We hope that’s okay with everyone! :-)
Today, students should:
*Complete 20 minutes of reading. Your choice. It can be with an online site (like Tumblebooks, Bookflix, Raz-Kids, PebbleGo, etc.) or with a magazine, favorite chapter book, etc. You can read alone, with your parents, to a sibling, face time with another special person, etc. You can read in the bathtub, with a flashlight, under a tree, etc.--Anything goes, as long as you’re reading.
*Do 20 minutes of math. Again, your choice. You can use an online site (like Math Playground, ABCya (math), Softschools, Math Prodigy, Education Galaxy, etc.) You can play a game that involves math (like Monopoly, Dominoes, Life, etc.) Card games are wonderful for practicing math facts. Grab a ruler and measure different things around the house or outside. Count money. Practice measuring by making a favorite recipe.--Anything goes, as long as you’re doing some kind of math.
*Dependent upon the materials you have around your house, the following sites have
some fun and engaging activities/games for practicing different math concepts.
https://www.education.com/activity/second-grade/math/?page=2 (Even though it says preschool math when you click on it, the site actually takes you to 2nd grade activities.)
https://www.lauracandler.com/5-math-games-every-classroom-needs/
*Complete the Hero Mail Call activity that was sent home in the green folder. Please do your very best work. I ask that you return this to me on our last drop-off/pick-up date. I will then send them to the address I have so our healthcare heroes and/or isolated seniors know we appreciate them!
(Optional): Spiderweb
*Materials: yarn and tape (both in the ziploc bag of challenge materials)
*Instructions: Tape pieces of string across a doorway to make a “poisonous spider web”. Individuals must get through the openings between the strings without touching them. (You may want to start with just a few strings and then increase the difficulty by adding more pieces of string.)

Minefield is a team-building activity involving trust, listening skills, giving clear directions, and teamwork.
How Do You Play the Minefield Team-building Activity?
Find a good large outdoor field or large indoor space. Be sure there are no dangerous items or hazards nearby. Set up the “minefield” by placing “mines” (large paper cups, empty plastic bottles, cones, soft foam balls, etc.) in many places all over the space.
Once the minefield is set up, one person will be blindfolded and will be not allowed to see or talk. The other individuals are allowed to see and talk, but are not allowed to touch the blindfolded person or enter the minefield.
The goal is for the blindfolded person to get from one side of the field to the other. He or she must safely avoid touching the “mines,” by carefully listening to the verbal guidance of their partners.
