Abstract
What is heritage? What is the role of "history" in heritage conservation? What is the state of heritage conservation and policy in the Philippines?
The lecture will provide an overview of the concept of heritage as reminders of the past and reflection of our society’s culture. The role of history as a discipline will be highlighted on how it contributes to heritage conservation and management in theory, practice, and policy. And through multiple issues and cases, the state of heritage conservation and management in the Philippines would be tackled as well as possible ways on how Philippine heritage can be saved for future generations.
Mr. John Ray B. Ramos is a Lecturer in the Department of History of Ateneo de Manila University and the Institute of Formation and Religious Studies in Quezon City. He obtained his B.A. in History at University of the Philippines Diliman and currently taking his Master of Public Administration degree in the National College of Public Administration and Governance in UP Diliman (UP-NCPAG). Since 2014, he was involved in several heritage conservation and cultural education projects around the country. As a scholar and cultural worker, his research interests include Philippine History, Public History, Heritage Conservation, Cultural Management, Cultural Policy & Governance.
