Welcome

Welcome!

The History Lecture Series is an annual program of the Ateneo de Manila University’s Department of History. Composed of lectures done by esteemed members of the faculty and guest scholars, the project aims to contribute and deepen discussions on History by featuring diverse topics that can stimulate further learning.

The theme for this academic year’s History Lecture Series is Disruptions and Reclamations. Like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which has disrupted our lives on a national scale, Philippine history is filled with disruptions such as conquests and conflicts. Such tumultuous events have displaced, disenfranchised, and dispossessed sectors in our society. These disruptions have opened struggles to reclaim and reassert what was lost, taken, and forgotten. This year’s History Lecture Series recalls such struggles of how we reclaimed and continue to reclaim our representation, memory, and identity.

About the Project

"We teach about our past, to our future."

It is the goal of the Department of History of the Ateneo de Manila University to undertake activities in teaching, research, and extension work designed to develop expertise in Philippine history as a primary area, and Western and Asian history as secondary areas.

The History Lecture Series aims to contribute to the ever-growing discipline of History by giving an avenue for the faculty members and guest scholars to share their highly diverse research interests.
