Have you decided to enroll in MATH PREP? If so, proceed to sign up. Note that slots are limited and the last day for signing up for Track A is July 7, 2025, while the last day for signing up for Track B is July 16, 2025.
If you still want to know more about MATH PREP, read on below.
MATH PREP is a short refresher of the basic mathematics concepts and skills that are required of incoming first-year students who will enroll in Precalculus and/or Calculus subjects in Ateneo. If you think you will be needing a more extensive and extended review or delivery of the precalculus lessons, and you did poorly in the Diagnostic Exam, we do not recommend MATH PREP for you. Please consider enrolling in MATH 2 instead.
MATH PREP 2025 will have two tracks, each having 6 sessions each, with each session being 2 hours in duration. The topics of the sessions for each track are as follows:
Track A: Preparation for Precalculus
Day 1: Computational and Algebraic Skills
Day 2: Exponents and Radicals
Day 3: Linear and Quadratic Equation
Day 4: Linear and Quadratic Inequalities
Day 5: Equations and Graphs
Day 6: Exercises
Track B: Precalculus Review
Day 1: Computational and Algebraic Skills
Day 2: Functions and their Operations
Day 3: Polynomial and Rational Functions
Day 4: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Day 5: Trigonometric Functions
Day 6: Exercises
Note that MATH PREP is not meant to instruct students with lessons that will be covered in mathematics subjects included in one’s regular curriculum; but it is a review of lessons that one should know to learn more effectively in these subjects.
Track A will be held on July 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 21. On the other hand, Track B will be held on July 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, and 30. There will be two learning modes to choose from: online (via zoom) and onsite (inside the Ateneo campus). The schedules are given below.
Track A: Preparation for Precalculus
Dates: July 14 (M), July 15 (T), July 16 (W), July 17 (Th), July 18 (F), July 21 (M)
Online Schedule: 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN
Onsite Schedule: 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM
Track B: Precalculus Review
Dates: July 23 (W), July 24 (Th), July 25 (F), July 28 (M) , July 29 (T), July 30 (W)
Online Schedule: 10:00 AM to 12:00 NN
Onsite Schedule: 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM
Track A covers mathematics lessons that prepare one for precalculus.
Track B covers precalculus lessons that prepare one for calculus.
If you are under any of the following degree programs – BS CH, BS CH-MSE, BS CS, BS CS-DGDD, AB EC, AB EC-H, BS ES, BS LfSci (M), AB MEC, BS MGT – and you think you need a quick mathematics refresher, then Track A would be most suitable for you. We do not recommend that you take Track B since you will already have a precalculus subject in your curriculum.
If you are under any of the following degree programs – BS COMTECH, BS ITE, BS LM, BS MAC, BS MGT-H, BS ME, BS APS-MSE, BS CpE, BS EcE, BS HS, BS IDE, BS MA, BS MIS, BS MIS-MSCS, BS PS, BSM AMF, BS AMDSc-M DSci – precalculus will not be in your curriculum. Hence, if you want a precalculus refresher, take Track B. If you feel that you need a refresher even for the more foundational concepts and skills, then feel free to take Track A.
(If your program of study is not listed above, then we do not think you need MATH PREP at all because you will not take up Calculus in your program. But we still welcome you to Ateneo!)
The instructor for each day will be conducting lectures on the topic and present some exercises and problems. Participants will have a chance to clarify lessons and ask questions. Participants will also be enrolled in the MATH PREP 2025 Canvas Instructure course where they will have access to modules and exercises for a limited period of time.
There will be no difference between the online class and onsite class save for the mode of delivery.
MATH PREP will be taught by various faculty members of the Ateneo Department of Mathematics. Hence, participation in MATH PREP will also allow students to have an early experience of learning with Ateneo mathematics teachers.
Yes.
If you wish to enroll in one track (Track A or Track B), a fee of PHP3,600.00 will be collected.
If you wish to enroll in two tracks (Track A and Track B), the bundled participation fee will be PHP6,700.00 for the two tracks.
The fee is the same whether you participate in the online class or the onsite class.
Yes. Confirmed recipients of the following types of Ateneo scholarships who participate in MATH PREP can avail of a 50% discount off the total fee:
Ateneo Financial Aid Scholarship (25%, 50%, 75%, or 100%)
Ateneo Academic Scholarship (Fr Steinbugler, Fr Nebres, and Jose P Rizal Academic Scholarships)
Ateneo Athletic Scholarship
Ateneo Grant-In-Aid
Magis Scholarship
Note that we do not offer discounts to recipients of the Ateneo Freshmen Merit Scholarship (AFMS) and Director's List (DL) Scholarship.
Last year, four batches of MATH PREP classes were held with over around 150 students participating. Two of the classes were online while the rest were fully onsite. Course evaluations collected from the students were very positive, with most of them saying that they would recommend it to their friends.
Here are some excerpts from students’ response to what they found most helpful with MATH PREP:
“Helped me refresh my memory.”
“The copy of the recordings, information sheets, presentations, and exercises [were] extremely helpful as they were able to aid me in studying at my own pace.”
“The professors were really helpful and they would see to it that they would answer most, if not all, of our questions.”
No, this is optional. In fact, if your score in the Diagnostic Exam is part of the highest score band or if you think you already have sufficient background and foundation in the concepts listed above, we do not recommend that you participate in MATH PREP.
On the other hand, if you have a very weak or poor foundation in precalculus, and your score in the diagnostic exam is within the lowest score band, we also do not recommend that you take MATH PREP. For this case, please consider taking MATH 2.
No, we are not going to offer other dates for MATH PREP. Despite not being able to participate in MATH PREP, we hope that you will take time to self-review the prerequisite mathematics concepts and skills prior to embarking on Calculus.
There is no graded work in MATH PREP, hence, you will not receive a grade in relation to your participation. But if you attend at least 4 out of the 6 sessions, complete the pre/post-tests, and complete the evaluation form, then you will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
If you’re convinced you want to be part of MATH PREP 2025 then please proceed to register your interest to participate here: go.ateneo.edu/2025MATHPREP (alternative link: bit.ly/2025AteneoMATHPREP)
After which we will send you an email that confirms your slot and informs you about payment procedures and next steps on your MATH PREP registration.
