The Hidden Leadership Variable
The Hidden Leadership Variable
The biggest determinant of your leadership effectiveness is the variable you couldn't see―until now.
In a world of nonstop complexity, even the most experienced and highly skilled leaders are hitting a wall. When pressure rises, leaders don't rise to their skills or experience.
They fall to the level of their consciousness.
Across a $366 billion leadership development industry, one variable has been missing ― the unseen factor driving your leadership from the inside out. The one that shapes how you think, decide, communicate, and respond under pressure.
Gretchen Griffin and Mark Yeoell ― drawing on decades of leadership science and their work with thousands of leaders ― make it visible and chart a path to develop it.
The Hidden Leadership Variable introduces the HLV3x3™ Framework ― a research-grounded map of how your level of consciousness shapes your leadership effectiveness. It gives you a mirror to see your leadership and a compass to shift it. Designed for immediate application ― in your next conversation, decision, or moment of pressure.
Inside, you'll find:
Relatable scenarios that illustrate how reactivity surfaces under pressure ― and how to shift it before it derails your leadership
A revealing self-assessment that exposes the unseen patterns shaping your leadership effectiveness
Proven practices for expanding your awareness and developing the capacity for highly effective leadership
A dynamic framework built for the complexity of leadership today ― grounded in adult development theory, neuroscience, and decades of real-world practice
Competencies matter. So does training. But on their own, they aren't enough. The next frontier of leadership development is consciousness ― and learning to develop it will transform how you lead.
This is a breakthrough book for leaders, executive coaches, HR partners, and organizations ready to move beyond outdated competency models and finally address the variable that matters most.
