The Performing Arts pathway at Atascadero High School focuses on the direct creation of art and entertainment by the individual artist instead of through a secondary physical medium. Performing artists are themselves the medium of creative expression. Students that choose to participate in the CTE Performing Arts Pathway must complete three classes: an intro class (Introduction to Theater or Improvisation), a Concentration class (Intermediate Acting: Stage & Film), and the Capstone class (Advanced Technical Theater in Production). Upon completion, students will earn a certificate of completion and a recognition at graduation for their accomplishment.
Theatre students learn to exhibit creativity in such areas as acting, design, playwriting and directing. Through this process, they become confident, well spoken, creative thinkers. Employers are not always aware that theatre experience also helps students learn creative problem-solving techniques that are directly applicable to virtually any job they have. Those with a performing arts background can demonstrate these advantages in a very competitive world.
