Students sleep in same-gender cabins with bunk beds and private bathroom and shower rooms inside their cabins. Each cabin will have one or more parent chaperones.
Mrs. Asaro and Mrs. Clinite will ask students their preferences for a few friends they would enjoy being in a cabin with. We will ensure that students are placed in a cabin with at least one of their requests while still balancing the cabins so everyone gets the enjoyment and rest they need at camp.
Each student will be able to shower in total privacy in a shower room located inside their cabin.
Sorry kids...we know you like looking your best, but no hair gel (or other strongly scented personal care items) at camp. The ants like it too! :)
We love our chaperones!! Parents, aunts, uncles, older siblings (18 and over) can all be a chaperone at Camp Ocean Pines. Does three days of getting away from work and hectic schedules while bonding in a new setting with your child all while enjoying nature walks, campfire songs, and taking in the stars sound like a great time?? You don't have to be the same gender to chaperone either. Moms / aunts / sisters will be assigned to girls cabins and dads / uncles / brothers will be assigned to boys cabins. You'll still be in the same activity group with your child and be able to enjoy being at camp together.
The food at camp is delicious! We will enjoy three fresh meals a day prepared from scratch in their onsite kitchen. With that in mind, they do not have the space to store student food and students are not allowed to bring food into their cabins as this will attract lots of ants. They do want to know about any food allergies or dietary restrictions and they will prepare meals and snacks especially with your child in mind and have food options ready for them at all meals.
It's a full and busy schedule from wake up to bed time and we are on the go, away from phones most of the day. In the event of illness or injury, parents will be called. If you have a family emergency, you can call the school office and Mrs. Isbell will contact both the Oceans Pines staff and us teachers. We know this is very different from being able to talk with your child each day and say goodnight. Rest assured, they will be having a great time and will have so much to tell you once we are all back home!
Not really. Being right by the coast, the bugs weren't very noticable. The best protection is long pants and long sleeves. Students who bring bug spray will need to apply outside with an adult's help. Being on the go all day, it was easier to skip it and we never had any problems.
Yes! Anything your child can easily apply themselves is a great idea.
For all medications, even over the counter medications, we need med forms for it on file here in the front office so that we can take it to camp with us. Please call the front office and Nurse Tammy will help you with the form you need and intructions for getting this all squared away. If it's a medication they can skip for one day (you can give it to them on the Wednesday we leave and the Friday we return) it might be easier not to send it.
