Our Post-Carceral Concept

How Post Carceral Works

At the core of the carceral state's construction from the beginning of this country’s European rebirth has been finding the best measures for controlling crime and furnishing punishment. The post carceral conception works by reconstructing institutions, employment descriptions and laws associated with crime and punishment.

Tier One

Returning the title of “human being” back to persons legally labeled, “criminals, detainees, deplorable, feeble-minded, inmates, prisoners, property of the state, unfit for society

As a society we must develop our understanding of those labeled as criminals currently in our jails, prisons, asylums and immigration detention. Cases for those who have been legally punished for breaking arbitrary law must be re-evaluated to better understand why they removed from society. A review of all “crimes” is at the forefront to protect individuals that have previously been targeted. Decriminalizing drug offenses and treat drug about as a social problem allows us a chance to look at the deeper problems within society.

Tier Two

Redesigning a world with no prisons swings the opposite direction of the choices made during the Antebellum period.

Post-revolutionary law reconstruction sought be less harsh and more humane carceral state however, these rules only applied to white felons. Any idea of rehabilitative confinement for slaves threatened the philosophical basis of the peculiar institution (Adamson, Punishment After Slavery Southern Penal System, p. 556). Prisons were put in place as a :rational alternative to capital punishment (Are Prisons Obelete p. 106, A. Davis)

Redesigning rehabilitation would not look like the previous institutions because it would be based on the Person first, their community, and access to resources known for deterring criminality: education, non traumatic environments, socials services and public outlets. The post carceral concept proposes using ethical behavioral sciences, developmental psychology and sociologist, programs within the community and educators to rehabilitate instead of punitive crime and punishments models.

Behaviors, for example, violence, drug use, thief would be assessed as surface evidence and the source of the behavior will be assessed with professionals. Sentencing options will replace mandatory sentencing; allowing a person to think about what they feel would be the best solution to the problem.

Tier Three

Reconstructing employment within the system would ensure the new system is not just an upgraded version of the previous system.

Police officers will be stripped of their titles to make room for Service and Safety Agents within communities. Spending the first year without a gun. Judges and Juries will be given the right to use their discretion and assistance from professionals trained to use knowledge instead of emotion to assess behaviors and solutions for the future. Changing the jury system, allowing volunteers who are interested in understanding and care about issues associated with the human condition and community. Attorney’s will conduct legal guidance and act as an accountability coach and representative within a legal system, as a counselor.

Political Initiative would reevaluate the amount of money being spent on prisons. Reduced the number of rehabilitation system, creating specific space for spending energy to taking about issue. Finding the interests of individuals and fostering new ways . Redistribute money towards initiates that prevent criminality, dog shelters, colleges, job training.

For the most terrible crime you could imagine...

There goes without saying that there are people who commit heinous acts against men, women children and animals with what perceived or confessed carelessness and malice. For these individual, the direction of their future would be presented as a choice:

A) Remain in rehabilitation center to acquire a degree, work within rehabilitation centers and rent an apartment in redesigned facilities formally known as prisons.

B) Willful register for the death penalty by filing as noncompliant with the ideologies of rehabilitation or social obligation to the community

C) Work with reintegration specialists and be released. Therapist, educator, lawyers and positive outlets within the system will be provided to individual who will later move into community that best suits their need.
