WEEK 1 (Resources for Students Arriving in Tempe)
You should receive an invitation via email to participate in SOS' WEEK1 Program, which matches incoming students with peer mentors; provides a slew of informational resources; supplies material goods to help you set up your apartment/home; and provides transportation to set up your bank accounts, phone service, etc. when you first arrive in Tempe.
International Graduate Student Arrival and Welcome
Arizona State University hosts a number of arrival and welcome events for incoming international students. These informative and interactive programs offer an overview of a wide variety of topics to help you learn more about ASU.
International Arrival and Welcome is required for international graduate students. Please make sure to register prior to the event.
Other Frequently Asked Questions
I would like to attend MSUS program but I would like to come the semester after the one I am admitted for, can I defer my admission date?
Unfortunately, you cannot defer your admission date to the next semester, but you can defer it to the same term next year.
To defer to a future semester, please follow the directions below:
Log onto your My ASU
Click on the name of your program (in blue) under the box “My Programs.”
It will pull down a menu with contact and campus info – click “request change.”
Another window will pop-up. Make sure that your pop-up blocker is disabled.
You will be given available updates – Click the Graduate ‘Change Form from’ the list of options.
Under Available Update, click on the appropriate change (i.e., change my admit term) to defer to the next fall semester.
Continue the process and submit.
A request will be sent to your academic unit for review.
How many credits are international students required to take each semester?
International students are required to take at least nine (9) credit hours each fall and spring semester and 6 of those credits must be in person classes. More information can be found on the International Students and Scholars Center page on Maintaining Status.

To receive your I-20, you must submit:
I-20 delivery option
Financial guarantee form
Financial document (Bank Statement or Financial support letter)
Foreign SEVIS address
Copy of passport
SEVIS transfer form (if applicable)
Be sure to choose your preferred I-20 delivery option. All the items above will show up on My ASU after you are fully admitted.
I am having trouble with receiving or submitting documents for the I-20. What should I do?
All information regarding the I-20 (how to request, what is needed, and tracking the status) may be found in the student’s My ASU student account.

Where can I find the courses I should take for my first semester ?
The class can be found here. For SOS courses please put "SOS" in the Subject field. Reference image attached below.

There is a “To Do” item which requires a final transcript from my current institution; however, I have not yet completed my current term. What should I do?
After students are admitted, they have one semester to submit their final official transcript (and official degree certificate if applicable).
I have a MMR hold on my account. How do I get this removed?
The MMR hold requires a student to send proof of the MMR vaccine or illness to Student Health Services; the student visit: https://students.asu.edu/health/immunization

Where can I get an ASU Sun card/ID card?
A student can acquire it after admission at the Sun Card office:cfo.asu.edu/cardservices
A student must be eligible to register for courses in order to acquire a Sun Card.
How can I find my 10 digit ASU ID number (also know as Affiliate or Empl ID)?
Three to five business days after students apply to ASU, they should expect to receive an email from ASU Graduate College detailing how to activate their My ASU student account. A student’s 10-digit ASU Affiliate ID number may be found under the Profile link on the My ASU student account page.
Can international students work while studying in the MSUS program?
Yes, international students are eligible to work on campus up to 20 hours per week while studying in the MSUS program.
