Welcome to Sophia's Writers' Studio!
As it says above, I'm Sophia, but my friends typically call me Soph. I'm 19 years old and currently live in Dousman, Wisconsin. My state has beautiful scenic nature areas as well as some pretty awesome cities like Milwaukee and Madison. The part I live in contains a lot of cows and cornfields, and you probably already guessed it, but one of my favorite foods is cheese! Third to watermelon and mac and cheese :)
I've been a barista since I was 14 years old, was a full-time store manager of a coffee shop when I was 17, and then I switched to Starbucks in 2021 so that I could take advantage of their incredible college tuition benefits. And now, here I am at ASU! Currently, I am majoring in Software Engineering and am excited to see what the future holds for me!
Obviously, coffee is a big hobby of mine, and I love competing in "Throwdowns" which are local latte art competitions where a coffee shop will rally up all the local baristas to compete. But, there is more to my identity than being a barista! I love anything artsy. Regarding mediums, I am a big fan of graphite, but in the last couple of years, I have been testing the waters of oil painting. Growing up, I played classical piano competitively but now I just enjoy it for fun. Playing classical piano was a big part of my life and I feel very blessed to have been considered one of the best high school piano students in the state. Besides the artistic parts of life, I enjoy many other things too. I am big into hunting, going to the gym, playing soccer, hiking, camping, bouldering, and lastly, I enjoy working on my car when I can! I named him Clifford the Big Red Jeep, because, well he is big and red! Most of my extra money goes into buying upgrades for him and I love learning how to install all the different parts!
Having such a wide variety of hobbies is a lot of fun, but has made it extremely difficult to decide what I want to do with my life. But, I am grateful that I was created the way I am, and am fully trusting in God to lead my life down whatever path He has chosen for me :)
If you want to learn more about my life experiences, achievements, and future goals, you can check those out below!
Interpersonal Skills - since mid 2017 my work has been centered around improving customer experiences through communication.
Time Management - being home schooled through middle school, doing virtual public high school, and now virtual college studies has given me many opportunities to learn time management skills which has grown me into a very self-motivated individual.
Organizational Leadership - being a senior in high school while managing a coffee shop grew my capabilities in organization, leading, and maintaining a flexible mindset. I learned to organize my work and school schedules around each other while ensuring that my team of employees felt secure in my ability to be a strong leader that would look out for the team and the cafe.
Was a full-time Cafe Coach (Store Manager) at Stone Creek Coffee when I was 17-years-old.
Received Honor Roll and President's Award for Educational Excellence every year through high school

Starbucks Partner of the Quarter (Q2Y2022)
Dean's List - Spring 2022 - Arizona State University
Prioritization - Everything in life has due dates and I've always planned my schedule around that. Going forward, I am working on prioritizing the things that don't have due dates but are more important to me than the things that do. I want to live my life right by God, not right by the world. Although I am typically a hustler when it comes to getting stuff done, I think it is important to have slow moments too.
Questions - Asking questions doesn't just apply to academics, but to everyday life too. I want to live my life as a questioner. If someone tells me to do or not do something, I want to ask why. Not because I don't believe their answer, but because I am in search of the reasons for things. I want to ask questions so that I can gain the knowledge to fully understand things. I want to ask questions so that we think about ways to make things better. I want to ask questions so that I can be a lifelong learner.
