Sigma Delta Pi is the only honor society devoted exclusively to students of Spanish in four-year colleges and universities and is the largest foreign-language honor society in existence (over 180,000 members). It is one of the elite as attested by its membership in the Association of College Honor Societies, the nation's only certifying agency for college and university honor societies. 

Sigma Delta Pi es la única sociedad de honor dedicada exclusivamente a estudiantes de español en colegios y universidades de cuatro años y es la mayor sociedad de honor de lenguas extranjeras que existe (más de 180.000 miembros). Forma parte de la élite, como lo demuestra su pertenencia a la Association of College Honor Societies, la única agencia certificadora de sociedades de honor de colegios y universidades del país. 

Graduate student members may apply for research grants of up to $2000 to support research abroad. Outstanding students may also be nominated by their local chapters to receive prestigious awards recognizing noteworthy involvement in their local chapter.
