Welcome To My Portfolio!
Reflection 1
I’ve always enjoyed writing. As a child, I would write stories, plays, even television shows that I thought were masterpieces. I would say I was a very confident writer as a child. Now as an adult I would still like to think I am a decent writer. I use writing in my personal life by journaling and planning. I started planning and journaling consistently a few years ago when I was really struggling to find balance in my life and felt like I had no idea what I needed to do as an adult to live a successful balanced life. Once I started planning I became a little obsessed. I plan out my daily/weekly chores and tasks. The tasks can be as trivial as when am I going to wash my hair and do laundry. I’ve found sitting down and writing out plans for these tasks help me accomplish them much quicker than if I just wait until I remember to do it. I have also found a lot of comfort in journaling. I don’t do it everyday, but usually when I’m feeling very emotional or anxious and can’t figure out the reason why. If I start to write out all my feelings and recent experiences I’m usually able to at least assign some reason to why I’m feeling the way I’m feeling and that provides me some comfort. I love that I am able to use these forms of writings to help myself and my well being.
I would say that my main goal with writing is to become better organized and more impactful when writing. Some of my journal entries are really hard to re read because I jump from one topic to the other so quickly it can be hard to follow. I would also like to improve the language I use, I feel as though I use the same language a lot throughout my composing and would like to improve that to make the reading more exciting. I would love to see myself as a great writer with a distinguished voice who is confident in what I write. I think I’ll need to strengthen how I plan or organize my ideas a bit more and better learn to identify my audiences. I hope my writing eventually becomes interesting enough to engage people and start a discussion. I’m always enthralled my authors who can captivate their audience and move them with their words, a skill I would love to develop. I’m always amazed when an author can make me cry, whether its from happiness or devastation, the fact that they are able to connect their subject so strongly to their audience is a skill I would like to have. I remember reading “Untamed” by Glenn Doyle, and one excerpt from her book was that “It’s a hard thing to do, but we can do hard things.” So amazing how impactful a few words can be when delivered the right way. I am excited for this journey on writing and can’t wait to see how much I can improve.
