W/P/L/H Dashboard

The Dashboard: To me, the dashboard is a visual representation of some of the main factors that affect my life and how to find a good balance between them. When I feel like I'm missing something, the dashboard shows how I am spreading my attention and that I might need to make an adjustment. You can never be too careful to adjust or readdress your needs.

WORK: Work to me are things that I do to achieve a goal. I work at Starbucks to save money for a car. I cook at least once a week to learn how to live on my own. I work at the Teacher's College to gain experience. Meanwhile, I work as a full-time student for a degree.

This week I'm feeling a great balance of work and rewards. I work enough to where I feel like everything I do is meaningful and not a waste of time. The more I get to know the people I work with, the more I enjoy it.

PLAY: Who doesn't love to relax? Play is the time that I feel wholesomely happy. This is usually when I'm hanging out with my friends, boyfriend, family, and sometimes even dogs. Play to me is not restricted to planned events because I also feel most amused when I have a good conversation with a stranger, my students, watch a good movie, or make the most delicious dinner without struggle.

I'm feeling very creatively independent this week! My boyfriend has been around a lot to help polish my ideas for teaching and I'm there to help him with editing all his video projects. In addition, I caught up with an old friend and made some delicious meals that would really make my mom proud!

LOVE: Love to me is the confidence you have in yourself and the mutual trust you have with others.

I am so fortunate to feel love all around me this semester. Although my family is all the way in Virginia, we call once a week to stay in touch. I get a lot of advice from my dad about teaching strategies. I also get to see my boyfriend and friends at least once a week which makes me feel loved. My boyfriend's family lives nearby and they give me a second family and dog to see whenever I want. Also, I'm getting out of my summer funk of self-doubt as I'm finally loving my new blonde hair and piercings. Knowing how hard I work gives me the confidence to keep going and succeed!

HEALTH: Staying healthy means having a positive attitude in how I live, eat, sleep, and think. A healthy mind goes hand in hand with a healthy body.

I'll admit I've been relying a bit too much on carbs and coffee to get me through these homemade dinners. I'm also still trying to find ways to incorporate more fruit and water into my diet since I don't get enough of either. However, although I haven't been going to the gym to formally workout, I realize how much I actually exercise on a daily basis. Riding my bike to class every day and working at Starbucks actually give me a decent workout that makes me sleep like a baby.
