Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs; also known as randomized clinical trials) are widely viewed as providing the gold standard for experimental evidence on whether a treatment has an effect. However, the validity and generalizability of RCTs depend on non-trivial assumptions about implementation and study populations. This page collects and reconstructs arguments about when and what we can learn from the results of RCTs.
