Ruby Obeng is a Mastercard Foundation Alumni, and a Doctoral candidate in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (SBHSE) at Arizona State University (ASU). She received her master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2019 from ASU where she worked with Dr. Panagiotis Artemiadis on exploring anticipatory muscle responses for transitioning on compliant surfaces needed to improve the robustness of powered ankle-foot prosthesis. Ruby had her bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana in 2018 where she graduated as the best student in her class.
Following the receipt of her master’s degree, Ruby, with an ardent interest in neural and rehabilitation engineering begun her PhD at ASU in 2019 with the ambition of equipping herself to develop the best technological systems to help individuals with disabilities. Currently, she works with the Human Mobility Laboratory on enhancing upper extremity function of individuals with stroke through a novel therapy under. She has been a recipient of the SBHSE Graduate Excellence Award in recognition of her academic and scholarship activities.
Ruby believes in the power of change and the importance of having a drive that is powered by an intense inner desire and will. She is a passionate leader who will use her passion to guide, empower and influence others positively. Her short-term goal is to become a knowledgeable and well-resourced individual in her field of study - a catalyst to propel her into her long-term goal of impacting the lives of others by channeling the knowledge she has acquired into the development of better rehabilitation systems.
