My name is Jessie Couto, I'm 26 years old, and I am a first time student at Arizona State University through my SCAP Partnership with Starbucks. I'm originally from the very small town of West Liberty, West Virginia and grew up on a secluded but beautiful farm with my parents, 2 younger sisters, and our many pets and farm animals. I have lived there for the majority of my life, but last year in September I moved to Boiling Springs, South Carolina with my boyfriend for him to continue his education for a doctorate in chiropractic. We have also taken in a beautiful stray calico feline since we've been here and have made her a permanent member in our small family (we named her Callie ❤️).
I'm currently majoring in anthropology, but I've been considering changing it to either a master's degree or potentially getting a minor in history or geography to pair with it. At this time, I don't really have an end goal in mind for my degree, but I adore the concept of learning about the world's history and the beautiful cultures that have endured in it and wish to make it into something I can continuously learn from and actively pursue in my life.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling when I can, reading a good fantasy novel, singing in the shower, cooking meals, outdoor activities/hiking, being with good company, art museums, yoga, drawing, coffee, video games, and D&D just to name a few.
My Favorites:
Novel: Lord of the Rings
Food: Ramen and Gyros
Color: Forest Green
Our newest member in the family
I consider recovering from a mental crisis to be an achievement for me. I have been struggling with major depression and anxiety for a long time, and this year I decided to seek out help for it. I've been doing much better and is part of the reason I'm back in school.
I have a strong work ethic that allows me to learn knew skills quickly and efficiently.
I consider myself to be a good singer and have attempted to audition for America's Got Talent for it (unfortunately I had horrible stage fright..)
I'm starting to learn new languages like Spanish, Italian, and ASL. Mind you, I am VERY new to it, so I can't hold conversations yet!
I'm constantly trying out new recipes to make. I don't know if that counts as a goal, but the results are superb.
