As I further develop my career as an architect/designer, I want to focus on sustainable design revolving around using green building materials. I think with as much advanced technology as there is in regards to materials, it should be more important to implement green building materials in our designs. From reusing materials to including the use of materials that are meant to withstand long amounts of time, as well as greenery in buildings, we can create spaces that will stick around for a long time.
The reason I have become so interested in this topic is because for so long we have been a world that creates so much extra waste and it is slowly filling the world with more trash than we know what to do with. With the use of green building materials, we can do our part as architects to minimize this effect.
With world-renowned firms such as Perkins & Will and HOK and their sustainability efforts, I have become more interested in the work that can be done on this topic. Their work has proven that with creativity and initiative, we can make a difference with the projects we design, and minimize our impact on the earth in which we inhabit.
With the already developed sustainable initiative that has been present in the design world, I plan to do my part in using as many green building materials as I can in the projects I work on in my career.
