The Earth Systems Science for the Anthropocene (ESSA) graduate scholars network is excited to announce the first Immersive, Interdisciplinary, and Identity-based Team Science Experience (IIITSE) cohort for summer 2022. A team of graduate students across multiple disciplines will work together in their cohort to co-design solutions-oriented research. The ESSA initiative supports graduate students interested in developing a collaborative research and action project that explores several interconnected aspects of community development and ecological restoration on the Rio Salado (Salt River) and Gila River watershed. We are aiming to work at the upstream, middle, and downstream ends of the Rio with Indigenous and urban communities living along the river. Our approach is to co-create collaborative, culturally affirming, and solutions-oriented projects that center diverse knowledge systems to respond to community needs.
If you are interested in forming partnerships or collaborations with our community-oriented research or if your organization is interested in sharing resources, please contact essa@asu.edu.

This seminar is designed to prepare students for the 10-week IIITSE focused on the Rio Salado. Although designed specifically for graduate students who have been selected for the summer program, scholars with interests in learning about approaches to understanding the past, present, and future of the interactions between people and the river are welcome to participate (IIITSE research associates). The seminar will meet via Zoom at a mutually agreed time. 1 credit, BIO591* #37766
