25 Years of Research in Yellowstone Hydrothermal Ecosystems
Geologic Processes – Geochemical Consequences – Microbial Responses
(22 July 2024) Since 1999 GEOPIG members and associates have conducted field research at thermal areas across Yellowstone guided by the desire to understand how dynamic geologic processes have geochemical consequences, and how geochemical changes drive microbial responses. The group of ten researchers who recently returned to ASU from Yellowstone studied how geologic structures and rock alteration affect hot spring location, composition, and history; microbial community responses to input of dissolved organic carbon to hot spring ecosystems; seasonal changes in hot spring composition and communities; and factors that influence how Yellowstone’s hydrothermal system is responding to climate change. Over the years, >180 individual researchers from > 25 universities and research labs have participated in these GEOPIG expeditions.

News just in today that their proposals will be funded! Congratulations!!
