As an instructor, I believe in clear, compassionate instruction that combines content that is appropriately challenging with support that is not just available, but presented in a way that all students know how and when to access it.
In my courses, I ensure that:
Students feel a sense of belonging in the classroom and rapport with the instructor
Learning is participatory and integrates elements of scientific research in all courses. My goal is for students to leave with an understanding of Psychology and Child Development as scientific fields of study
I explicitly define and explain all course policies, practices, and learning outcomes to increase inclusion and reduce barriers to success

Selected Quotations from Student Evaluations
"An incredibly communicative teacher who's patient with students."
"Excellent instruction."
"I feel in the beginning of this class I was super worried and felt like I would not understand how to write a research paper at all. However, all of the lectures for the lab and in class activities really helped me and I feel like I have a great understanding of it now and feel confident in my writing"
"I appreciate how Elise takes the time to help out and answer in and outside of class"
"I feel like Elise was one of the best and most interactive TA's I've had in my time at ASU and I really appreciated how she did in class activities to help prep us to write the various sections for our essays." [Note: student used the term "TA" but is referring to Research Methods Laboratory, for which I was the instructor of record]
