The Story Behind This Webpage
Thank you for visiting our website! This site was created by Arizona State University students Jessica Hladik and Chimereze Okezie as part of their final Impact Outcome for the Spring 2023 Gendering Peace and Security Humanities Lab.
This Impact Outcome seeks to address the disconnect that may exist between how individuals understand the bond between social and environmental sides of sustainability. In this class, we have discussed the connection between gender equality and environmental sustainability at great length. Although sustainability is built on environmental and social themes, there may be a lack of understanding of how they are intertwined.
By providing this book list, we hope to offer a resource to individuals interested in learning more about the intersectionality of gender equality, women’s rights, and environmental challenges. This Impact Outcome thus ties into the United Nation's fourth and fifth Sustainable Development Goals: Quality Education and Gender Equality. This project recognizes the reinforcing nature of gender equality and climate challenges, and seeks to demonstrate this relationship to individuals by providing examples, stories, analyses, and other learning materials.
We want to distribute this booklist to different communities, including local libraries in the Tempe area, as well as on online platforms that we can connect with virtually. While we cannot make anyone want to learn about these topics, we hope to create a resource that will facilitate their learning and understanding if they choose to take advantage of it. We understand that stories are powerful, and that's why we chose to create a book list-- to share stories.
Anyone can promote their work online, which is why this list was curated based primarily on real-life, face-to-face recommendations offered to Jessica and Chimereze from Arizona State University faculty and peers. Special thanks to Dr. Joni Adamson, Dr. Miki Kittilson, Mohadeseh Mousazadeh Miandehi, and Mimmo Bonanni for their guidance and recommendations.
