Abstract
The Solo-RSI is a medical device that will provide clinicians with an organizational tool that can deliver faster and more successful rapid sequence intubations, both in the emergency room and in the field. The success of our product is dependent on whether or not we can decrease the time it takes to set up a rapid sequence intubation procedure to having the tube fully secured in the airway while maintaining or increasing the current intubation success rate. This medical device is categorized under emergency medicine and will most likely be classified by the FDA as a class I, or possibly class II, medical device. Our team has constructed a House of Quality in order to layout the customer needs and target specifications, with some of the most important of those being a need for the product to be portable and easily cleaned as it will not need to be autoclaved. Because this tool needs to be portable, it is necessary that we find lightweight yet durable materials to construct it with. It is also important that we design our product in a way that can be easily customizable, since most clinicians have their own unique way of setting up and performing the procedure. Lastly, we have plans to direct our focus in marketing the Solo-RSI to hospitals and first responders, so our product will need to meet standards in place that will allow it to be stored and used both in the back of an ambulance and in a helicopter.
