Undergraduate students

A research experience is one of the best ways to explore your interests and gain valuable experience in meaningful science projects. If you are curious, engaged, and motivated, I invite you to work with me on our current research in soil biogeochemistry. Students of all levels are welcome, and the first step to getting started is to shoot me an email.

There are numerous ways for B.S. and B.A. students to become a part of my laboratory group:

Independent Instruction (ENV/LSC 499) provides an opportunity for students to conduct original research in soil biogoechemistry with me, and to receive course credit for their work. For students in the ENV B.S., 3 credits can count as your required "capstone experience".

New College Undergraduate Inquiry and Research Experiences (NCUIRE) allows New College students to work collaboratively with faculty in independent research through a competitive proposal process while being paid a stipend during the academic school year.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) in Urban Ecology: The REU program is a great way for students to develop their own independent project in urban soil ecology, through a paid summer internship with CAP-LTER

Honors Contract or Honors Thesis: Students in Barrett, the Honors College at ASU may work with me to conduct an independent research project for their honors thesis.

Research Assistants: Occasionally, paid "Student Worker" positions are available to undergraduate students to work (usually 5-10 hours per week) on specific research projects in the lab. This is a great way for students to gain laboratory experience in a variety of chemical and biological methods by contributing to existing projects.

Volunteer: Students who want to explore the field of soil biogeochemistry from a hands-on point of view without the heavier commitment of the options above may volunteer smaller amounts of time in my lab group.
