Welcome to the Writers' Studio!
To start things off, looking back the kinds of writing I have experience with would probably be more of free writing. When I was in high school English was one of my favorite subjects, and using free writing was a way for me to express myself and use my own ideas and thoughts more freely. I feel like free writing is used in my workplace. I work at Starbucks, so I think free writing goes well with that type of environment. Even though we don’t write a whole lot, we do use our own thoughts and ideas and use them freely as a team. I feel confident about free writing. I feel this way because you can just write with your own thoughts and ideas and not have to worry about the critical parts of writing. The perception of others has impacted my identity as a writer because getting harsh criticism can be a lot for someone to handle. Especially when you feel like you wrote a good paper and then when it gets looked at, you receive tough feedback. I like to feel that I am a good writer in a sense. I don’t really write a whole lot but when I do have to write papers, I believe that I am pretty good and cover all the topics pretty well.
Looking forward the new media that I would like to compose in would be probably getting into more podcasts. I have never really been interested in them until recently. I have a good friend that does a podcast with his friends, and I was very much interested and entertained by it. The kinds of writing that I would like to experiment with us to get better at creative writing and narrative writing. The writing practices ad strategies that I would want to practice and or strengthen would be to keep a journal and practice my writing skills to become a better writer. The type of writing identity that I would like to have is writing to make people laugh, more comical writings. I want to be able to change how people think, feel, and act. The writing goals I have for this class would be to overall just be a good writer, and to have patience because I know what comes with good writing and being a good writer that there’s a lot of patience that goes with it. I would like to accomplish as a writer at the end of this class, to just be the best writer I can be and hopefully change people moods, and lives with my writing. I know a lot of people depend on books and writing as a way to communicate their feelings, and as a way to cope with things they are going through, so I just would want people to appreciate my writing and feel some sort of happiness in the end.
To start things off looking back, the vision of myself and the relationship to writing has changed tremendously since the course began. What challenged me most during this project was probably the writing prompts. I think this because im not usually that big on writing, and so when I had to write essays that were detailed in this class it challenged me. I think I approached languaging in Project 1 on more so of the audience then my own biases. I think this because I took most of the feedback and notes from the audience anyways rather then my own thoughts and opinions. I feel the new strategies and or processes I tried during the first project was time management and a lot of patience. I know sometimes writing can be overwhelming and challenging, and having a lot of patience helps. The habits of mind that I practiced and strengthened I feel were openness and engagement. Openness was the willingness to consider new ways of being and thinking about the world. And Engagement was a sense of investment and involvement in learning. The kind of feedback I received from reviewers was positive feedback. There were some reviews that had constructive criticism but that just means I need to work harder. The feedback from project 1 aligns pretty well with how I see myself as a writer . I took all the feedback from my peers and rewrote my project with more information to make it a solid essay.
Looking forward, The writing goals I have for the remainder of this course is to be as creative as I can be and engaging I can be. The support I may need from my peers or instructor to meet these goals is just giving me constant positive feedback on my assignment and essays. The skills I have practiced that I plan to use for the second project is getting better on my citation skills and using the proper sources to be as successful as I can be. I don’t think I have any specific writing goals for this class. I would just like to be as successful in this class and get better knowledge through writing. I think just being positive and patient with my writing is an accomplishment to me.
For the final reflection in this class, Looking back what I have learned about myself as a writer is that I have a lot of patience when it comes to writing. I believe the one thing that I was most challenged by during the work of the second project was getting the proper and accurate resources I needed. I had the resources, I just lacked on some of it. The kind of feedback I received from my reviewers was positive, but also received constructive criticism. I wasn’t really surprised, I knew coming into Project 2 that it wasn’t going to be a perfect essay, and that there were going to be some bumps in the road. I am especially proud of the growth in project 2. In project 1, I didn’t really feel confident in any of my writing assignments, but I started to feel confident in my writing and it took a lot of patience. The vision of myself and my relationship to writing changed tremendously since the course began. I have a better understanding on the requirements for essays like these and how to get the proper resources. My attitudes about what I have learned in this class haven’t changed, I stayed pretty positive throughout and kept a good head on my shoulders. I can definitely say the evolution of my writing has evolved, and grown since the very first assignment in this course. I am excited to see where my writing goes in the future.
Looking forward, The growth/strength that I am proud of is the patience I have endured during this class, and the confidence I have received from the feedback from my peers and instructor. The skills that I am still working on is trying to be better about properly citing and referencing. The skills and habits I want to practice on in the future is to learn how to write the “perfect essay”. How I see myself as a writer moving forward is a good and inspirational writer. I want my writing to impact people in the best way that it can. A lot of people depend on reading and writing to cope with things in life and I just want to make that kind of impact on them with my writing. I see myself as someone who is confident and patient with everything, and having that mentality is good for someone who wants to be a writer. My new goals for myself as a writer beyond this course, is to just be patient with time and let things flow and take its course. It takes a lot to be a good writer and you need to have that positive attitude.
