Welcome to this week's Round-Up!
As we end off another busy week we'd like to say a huge 'well done' to our Y2 pupils who completed their KS1 assessments last week. They all showed great resilience and determination and tried their very best - that's all we can ask for and we are very proud of their efforts!
Our Y6's put some finishing touches to their SATs preperation and were then able to let their hair down a bit on Friday with our commemoratins of Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday. We wish them all the very best for next week and feel the poem below captures our feelings about the upcoming tests:
Dear Year 6s,
Before what next week brings,
We need you to remember These important things.
SATs don't measure sports SATs don't measure art,
SATs don't measure music,
Or the kindness in your heart.
SATs don't see your beauty,
SATs don't know your worth,
SATs don't see the reasons,
You were put upon this earth.
SATs don't see your magic,
How you make others smile,
SATs don't time how quickly,
You can run a mile.
SATs don't hear your laughter,
Or see you've come this far,
SATs are just a tiny glimpse,
Of who you really are.
This weekend when you’re at home,
Or tucked up in your bed.
Have a good laugh, read a good book,
Do not let a worry enter your head.
Remember to have a good breakfast
And a good night's sleep.
Get outside for a walk,
Make memories you can keep.
Then next week whilst sat at your desk,
With your pencil, ruler and your test,
Remember SATs aren't who you are,
That’s because you are the best!
Attendance
Consistency is the heartbeat of our thriving school community, and regular attendance is the single most important factor in ensuring your child feels confident, connected, and ready to learn.
Every day in the classroom is a chance to spark a new interest and build lasting friendships—thank you for your continued support in making every school day count!
This week's attendance:
School overall: 92.4%
FS1: 93.4% Year 3: 85.6%
FS2: 94.6% Year 4: 86.4%
Year 1: 93.8% Year 5: 93.8%
Year 2: 95% Year 6: 92.6%
Well done to all our 'green' classes whose overall attendance has improved from last week. Congratulations to Year 2, who will get to roll the monopoly dice this week!
Congratulations to all those children who managed to attend every day last week as we're back up to 73% who achieved 100% attendance.
Let's see if we can do even better next week - everyone who attends every day next week, will receive 5 RAFFLE TICKETS!
With hayfever season and a few viruses circling, please remember that these are not reasons to keep children at home. Children can be sent into school with a cough, cold, sore throat, etc and we'll keep a close eye on them.
A big 'well done' do all our award winners this week! We are very proud of you all!
It was also lovely to share in achievements from home as well as our pupils working really hard to ensure they take pride in their presentation and handwriting with the award of their 'pen licence'.
1st-7th June
Following the success of our pupils and parents First Aid sessions last week, we will be following up by taking part in Child Safety Week this year. In conjunction with this, we will be sharing helpful safety advice each week, which we hope you find useful!
W pride ourselves on removing barriers to learning to ensure all our pupils can achieve well, develop essential skills and knowledge as well as personal attributes as well as have a wide range of experiences. We are continually reviewing how we can adapt to ensure we do this even better, incorporating researched approaches and latest technology.
We are very excited that the builders have been in this week to start work on 'The Nest', which will be a purpose-built area of school designed to fulfil a wide range of needs of our Aston Lodge pupils. It will incoporate a combination of the two designs pictured above and will provide a calm area, work stations, sensory circuit and areas for small group work. We can't wait to see the finished room and will keep you updated as to its progress.
Wearing school uniform fosters a collective sense of belonging by visually uniting our children as one proud community.
Our uniform encourages a sense of pride in their appearance and helps them transition into a focused mindset ready for learning.
We would like you to work with us on this, to ensure all our pupils wear their correct school uniform and PE uniform.
There is also a safety element to our request, as we have noticed some children beginning to wear Crocs (or other 'slip in' shoes) for school. These can become very unsafe when children are funning around!
Please see the link for our full uniform policy on our website and thank you in advance for your support with this:

We were very excited to see the Pride of Yorkshire featured on Calendar News this week (Thursday), as well as in the local press. We are very proud to be part of the trail and look forward to seeing our amazing masterpiece amongst all the othe wonderful creations on the trail. We'll let you know as soon as we receive an update as to where ours might be located from June when the trail starts!
We've taken on board the feeback from pupils and will therefore be postponing the Aston Lodge's Got Talent event.
We feel that, we need to give the children opportunities to develop their confidence to a point where they feel more assured and resilient in being able to 'showcase' their talents and/or special skills.
We will be exploring the concept of 'what is a talent' on Monday 15th June, which will culminate with some of our staff demonstrating some of their talents to the children.
We hope this will equip the children with a better understanding of how broad a definition this can be for them to think about their own uniqueness and individuality.
We will then give children the opportunity during one of our weekly asseblies, to show us their talent. Those pupils (and staff) who participate, will be awarded with a special badge to recognise their aspiration and contrtibution.
