Welcome to this week's Headteacher Round-Up!
It's been another busy week at Aston Lodge Primary School and at long last we've been able to make the most of the outdoors and some time in the sun! Our Y6's have completed their final series of practice tests before the real SATs in a few weeks' time. They showed great resilience and all tried their absolute hardest - we can't expect more than that - well done Y6! They enjoyed an immersive day on their 'natural disasters' work and took part in some very memorable learning.
Our 'Wizard of Oz' rehearsals are well underway and I've been incredibly impressed by the confidence the pupils have shown in these first rehearsals and how well they have been performing. Costume letters have now gone out and can be set into school as soon as you have them. If anyone has any difficulties with obtaining any part of the costume, please don't hesitate to let us know as we'll be only too happy to help!
Our Young Voices club also started this week and our first session was great! Our concert seems a long way off (24th February), but we're preparing everything for when the concert songs are released and to allow the children to be able to practice at home during the holidays as well! We'll make sure we keep our families updated as new information is received!
Please note that Young Voices is a seperate event to Rotherham One Voice (some children received a letter about this last week). Some children will be taking part in both. Please come and see us if there's anything you're not sure about.
There have been some changes to our PE lessons from next week: all PE lessons that take place on a Thursday will remain the same (Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6).
The PE lessons on a Friday will now take place on a Tuesday. This will be for FS2, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6. If kit could be in school for a Tuesday now instead of Friday that would be brilliant!
The other lessons that take place with class teachers will remain on the same days as usual.
Consistency is the heartbeat of our thriving school community, and regular attendance is the single most important factor in ensuring your child feels confident, connected, and ready to learn.
Every day in the classroom is a chance to spark a new interest and build lasting friendships—thank you for your continued support in making every school day count!
This week's attendance:
School overall: 91.9%
FS1: 94.2% Year 3: 88.5%
FS2: 100% Year 4: 86.7%
Year 1: 94.1% Year 5: 93.7%
Year 2: 92.9% Year 6: 91.1%
Well done to our FS2 class who have achieved 100% attendance this week.
125 of our children (70%) of our children attended school every day last week and earned their 'goldne ticket' - well done to you all!
We invited our male family members into school this week for our 'Genrations Morning'. They didn't know what they were in for but were all really good sports when they realised they would be learning how to knit!
The children and their adults showed great resilience and perseverence in trying to get to grips with this new skill and some even discovered a hidden talent!
We hope everyone enjoyed the morning as much as we all did and we look forward to our next event!
We have spent time this week carrying out a review of religious education. Our children shared with us that they enjoy their RE lessons, particularly when lessons include discussion, storytelling and interactive elements like drama and pupils feel confident sharing their views. In KS2, many can articulate opinions and make links to real life context.
Our next steps are to make sure that our children can consistently remember what they have learnt in the past so they are able to apply this to new learning as well as further development of specific RE vocabulary.
We've also been focusing on 'writing' this week - especially productivity and pact in pupils' independent writing. We have clear progression of skills and stamina as we move through the school and the majority of pupils enjoy the opportunity to write.
We are looking forward to working with our colleagues from across Wickersley Partnership Trust to review and implement new approaches to writing, over the next few months.
We are looking forward to our next Reading Breakfast on Wednesday 29th April at 9:00am.
All are welcome to attend, but please make sure you complete the form as this helps with our organisation.
If you have more than one child in school, please complete a seperate form for each, thank you.
We look forward to seeing you there!
