A variety of grants are available to retrofit houses and make them more energy efficient. This saves the homeowner money in the long run and improves the house’s energy rating which increases property value.
Currently there are three options available:
Individual Energy Upgrade Grants
(Formerly Better Energy Homes and Solar PV schemes)
Homeowners manage the upgrades themselves. This includes contractor selection, grant application, contractor works, follow up BER.
This is for homeowners who want individual energy upgrades, to manage their own project, to apply for the grant themselves and to pay for full cost of works and claim grants afterwards.
Grants are available for
Attic insulation
Wall insulation
Heating controls
Heat pump
Solar thermal
Solar PV
This is for homes built and occupied before 2011 for insulation and heating controls and before 2021 for heat pumps and renewable systems.
One Stop Shop Service
This is a fully managed solution that covers a wide range of grants and grant values are deducted from the overall coast upfront. A One Stop Shop Service will manage your upgrade including home energy assessment, grant application, project management, contractor works, follow up BER and in some cases finance options.
This is for homeowners who want multiple energy upgrades, to upgrade to a minimum B2 BER, a fully managed solution including grant applications and to pay for the works net of the eligible grant.
This is for homes built and occupied before 2011 for insulation and heating controls, 2011 for renewable systems. All homes must complete a minimum level of energy upgrades and achieve a minimum BER rating of B2.
Fully Funded Energy Upgrade
(Formerly Warmer Homes)
This service is managed by SEAI and includes home survey, contractor selection, contractor works, follow up BER.
This is for qualifying homeowners in receipt of certain welfare benefits including Fuel Allowance, Job Seekers Allowance for over six months with a child under seven, Working Family Payment, One-Parent Family Payment, Domiciliary Care Allowance, Carers Allowance, Disability Allowance for over six months with a child under seven.
The upgrades offered include attic insulation, cavity wall insulation/external wall insulation/internal wall insulation, new heating system, window upgrade, secondary work e.g. draught proofing and lighting upgrade.
This is for homes built and occupied before 2006 for insulation and heating systems.
