Funding, Payment & Eligibility

Paying for an assistive technology evaluation, and for any recommended tools, can work in different ways depending on the setting and the individual's situation. This page describes possible pathways for general information only. It does not confirm coverage or eligibility, and availability varies. Whether any pathway applies to a specific person depends on that program's rules and the individual's circumstances.

Possible pathways may include:

School systems: For students, an evaluation may be arranged through a school or district process. For school systems, purchase orders may be accepted.

Private payment: Individuals or families may choose to pay directly for an evaluation.

Insurance or Medicaid, where applicable: Some evaluations or devices may be covered in certain situations. Coverage is not guaranteed and depends on the plan and applicable rules.

Vocational rehabilitation: State vocational rehabilitation programs may support technology related to employment goals for those who qualify.

Veterans resources: Some veterans may have access to relevant programs or benefits.

State assistive technology programs: Many states have AT programs that offer information, device demonstration, loan, or reuse services.

Other funding programs: Additional local, nonprofit, or grant programs may exist depending on the person's needs and location.

Why Some Evaluation Services Are Fee-Based

Providing an individualized assistive technology evaluation takes substantial professional time, training, and expertise, so some evaluation services are offered on a fee basis rather than at no cost. Charging for these services allows Accessibility Clinic ® Inc. to continue offering assistive technology, AAC, educational, and IEE evaluations as part of its nonprofit mission, alongside the free educational information provided throughout this site.

How Evaluation Fees Support the Mission

Revenue generated through fee-based evaluation services is used to support Accessibility Clinic® Inc.'s nonprofit operations and mission-related activities, including the delivery and development of accessibility and assistive technology services, educational resources, programs, and other activities that promote access and independence for individuals with disabilities.
